CONTORNO

Meditativa e espontânea, a série Mother and Child, do artista Aung Myint, segue uma linha continua que suporta todo o desenho. Construído em shan paper, Mother and Child descansa em um sutil contorno. Com apenas uma linha que caminha sobre o papel, Aung Myint constrói uma relação íntima entre os personagens, unindo os dois num mesmo traço. Com pequenas interferências, a série se compõe com clareza e assume um caráter puro na escolha da cor – apenas o preto. O desenho respira na tela, escuta o silêncio da folha que ecoa na incerta calma do dia.

Nota: Myanmar, antiga Birmânia, onde vive e trabalha o artista Aung Myint, é um caso particular. O país, que visitei em setembro de 2007, vive em uma estranha contradição: um pacífico povo budista é governado por uma forte ditadura militar. Além da liberdade de pensamento violentada, o governo bloqueia as fronteiras e tenta preservar o país do contato com o exterior. No país, conheci artistas que me falaram de censura e morte, desejo e realidades. Poucas palavras se abrigavam em fissuras, habitavam em uma camada fosca. Para falar de arte em Myanmar talvez não seja possível ignorar a situação política do pais, uma vez que o contato com o mundo exterior é controlado, a internet é bloqueada, o telefone pouco funciona e celular é capricho de poucos. A ditadura é presente e influencia, assim, na condição de vida e trabalho dos artistas. Em presença de Aung Myint percebi certa quietude contida em uma fria realidade.

 

CONTOUR

Meditative and spontaneous, the Mother and child series by artist Aung Myint follows a continuous line that holds the whole drawing together. Painted on shan paper, Mother and Child rest on a subtle outline. With just one line walking on paper, Aung Myint builds up an intimate relationship between the created characters by uniting the two into the same trace. With minor interferences, the series is composed with clarity and adopts purity in the choice of color –just black. The drawing breathes in space, listens to the silence of the paper that echoes the uncertain calmness of the day.

Note: Myanmar, ex Burma, where Aung Myint lives and works, is a particular case. The country faces a strange contradiction: peaceful Buddhists are governed by a strict military dictatorship. In addition to the violation of freedom of thought, the government blocks the borders and tries to prevent the people from getting into contact with the exterior. In the country, which I visited in September 2007, I met artists that talked to me about censorship and death, desire and realities. Few words sheltered in cracks, lived behind an opaque veneer. Talking about art in Myanmar one finds it difficult to ignore the political situation of the country, since the contact with the outer world is controlled, the internet is blocked, the telephone hardly works and mobile phones are a luxury that only a few can enjoy. The dictatorship is present and influences the living and working conditions of the artists. In the presence of Aung Myint I perceived some kind of serenity within a cold reality.
